Inside the Ground Zero Memorial

The concept for Michael Arad’s design of the World Trade Center Ground Zero memorial, which he calls “Reflecting Absence,” came to him suddenly one day in 2003 and has possessed him since. In this news video, published on the Philadelphia Inquirer website (philly.com), Arad recounts the moment the vision came to him and opens his notebook of preliminary design sketches that would eventually grow into what we see at the Lower Manhattan site today.
